I received Rise of the Deva'shi through GoodReads "First Reads". Thank you SO much Jennifer, and for signing it for me! *big grin*
I normally don't read this genre (Fantasy), which is exactly why I wanted to read it. (Now I know I should read it more often)
What a wonderful book!! I definitely enjoyed everything about it, I'd even give it more than 5 stars. It has everything you could want in one book - action, suspense, romance, etc., etc. The pace is great, as is the character development.
... the only disappointment is I don't think Jennifer has another novel out *yet?*

I am in love with this book. I have never read a book in the fantasy genre but Allis Provost has peaked my interest to try another book. I hope other fantasy books live up to this one. This book contained war, action, fictional history, superb character development, suspense, and passion. I very much felt for the characters in the situations they were put into. My favorite aspect of the book is way I was put into the position to witness the passionate relationship between the two main characters. The way the characters spoke and interacted with one another was far above romance and fully expressed passion. Thank you to the author for choosing me to be a first reader. I hope to see another book from you!
An Engaging Fantasy Epic
Posted April 27, 2010, 9:06 PM EST: The first-born heir to her father's kingdom, Latera enjoys the charmed life of being a princess. Her life of privilege comes to an abrupt end, though, when she's swept away from her home and becomes lost in the realm of Faerie. For the next six years, she lives in obscurity as a stable girl - until she's summoned to the court of Asherah, the Faerie Queen, and eventually joins her army of demon-killers in a valiant effort to protect her new homeland. Thrust in the middle of an escalating war against marauding demon hordes, will she find the courage to meet her destiny...? With a gripping storyline and compelling action, Rise Of The Deva'shi is an engaging fantasy epic. Skillfully crafted by author Jennifer Allis Provost, this grand, sweeping tale of mystic splendor is sure to please fans of well developed, imaginative thrillers. In Latera, Provost has created quite the sympathetic protagonist: a tragic figure with the best of intentions but often the worst of luck - but one who nonetheless perseveres and is ultimately redeemed by no less than the sheer force of her will. As such, she serves as an inspiring figure for anyone who finds themselves similarly thrust in the middle of the darkest of circumstances, her very life an encouraging reminder that what matters more than the challenges that befall us is the character that we display in the face of them. Holistically entertaining, Rise Of The Deva'shi takes the reader on an enjoyable ride through a lush fantasy world sure to leave an indelible impression long after the last page has been turned. THIS is the book to make sure you have a lot of time to read. Difficult to put down.....
Posted July 22, 2009, 8:46 AM EST: This book is terrific. The characters are strong yet easy to fall in love with and others are easy to hate and there were definately times in the book where my mind would scream at the book like one yells at the television. This book is absolutely riveting. I cannot wait for the other chronicles to come out. Kudos to the author on her first but OUTSTANDING book. If this is just her first, I cannot wait to see the others. She has outstanding ideas and the twists and turns are amazing!!!!!!!!!!
